For a basic melamine bathroom cabinet with solid surface countertop that has a length of around 6 to 8 feet, you can expect to pay around RM2800 – 3800.

With higher quality materials, such as laminated plywood and quartz countertop, you can expect the cost to increase to around RM4200 – 5700. These prices do not include the sink and taps.

What factors influence the bathroom cabinet price?

The price of a bathroom cabinet will depend on several areas below:

Length of cabinet

Prices of cabinets are calculated in per-foot-run. So, a cabinet of 6 feet will include the cabinet inner frame and cabinet doors. The cabinet is generally wall-mounted to keep it clear from the wet floor, and a hole is cut at the top of the cabinet for the bathroom sink and plumbing.

Cabinet material

The main bulk of cabinets will depend on the material. And the most common cabinet material will be melamine (chipboard), laminated plywood, or plywood veneer.

  • Melamine chipboard. This material is made from compressed wood fibres with a front and back layer of plastic. It is one of the most common and cost-effective materials for cabinets. However, if your cabinet is at risk of getting splashed with water frequently, this material may not last as long.
  • Laminated plywood. This material is made from wood boards that are glued together, with a front and back layer of hard plastic that has a printed design on it. The design can be made to look like any material you want, such as wood, stone, marble, or solid colours. They are more durable than melamine, but are more expensive
  • Plywood veneer. This material is similar to laminated plywood, but the plastic front and back layer is replaced by a very thin sheet of real wood (called a wood veneer). This gives the cabinet a real wood look and feel. However, they will require more care, as they are easier to scratch, and may not last as long in a humid bathroom.

Cabinet doors

Typically, the cabinet doors will either be melamine or plywood. But, you can also upgrade your doors to acrylic or glass.

Countertop

The next costly item will be the countertop. Many bathroom renovations choose solid surface countertops for its affordability and variety of colours and patterns. But, there are also stone options in quartz and granite. And recently, a new type of solid surface called ultra-compact surface has started to gain popularity.

The countertop will need to be cut to fit a bathroom sink. Or, you can choose to skip the countertop, and place a vessel sink directly on top of the cabinet.
