Caring for your home is no easy feat, especially when you need to keep it in check all round the year.
To make it easier, we made you this little checklist with how frequently you should perform your services and repairs!
Monthly
Aircon servicing
Accumulated dirt in your air conditioning is harmful to inhale. Plus, your aircon unit suffers the brunt. Performing your service at least every 2 to 3 times a month can prolong your compressor’s efficiency.
Unclog the sink
A clogged drain below your sink interrupts water flow and tends to emit an unpleasant smell over time. Fix this problem by pouring shaved ice cubes down the drain, followed by baking soda and hot water.
Identify minor water leak sources
Don’t want to spend more than you should on water bills? Check the pipelines in your bathroom or under the kitchen sink once in a while for possible leaks.
Clean your exhaust fan/cooker hood
If you have a cooker hood installed, clean out the exhaust pipe once a month to ensure it functions optimally and cleans the air.
Unclog the shower drain
Hair, dirt clumps and bits of soap residue impedes proper water flow, causing it to become clogged. Check once a month and unclog whenever necessary.
Test the smoke detector and fire extinguisher
Due to scarce usage, test out your smoke detectors and fire extinguishers if you own one so it doesn’t fail in the event of an emergency.
Inspect power cables
Frequently using your power cables can cause them to fray and damage due to friction. Take a look once in a while so it doesn’t cause electrocutions or shortages.
Tend to the plants
Plants and bushes with fast growth rates require regular maintenance, like weeding, trimming, and cutting off tall shrubs.
Rinse out your electric kettle
Sediment that may have collected at the bottom needs to be washed out monthly, for cleaner and better water quality.
Every 6 Months
Check the condition of your roof
Apart from exterior paint, the erratic tropical weather has a deteriorating effect on your roof. Get them checked for sliding, missing or cracked tiles, and mould growth.
Inspect the foundation of your home
If you notice cracks on the walls, floor, windowpanes or doors, call a contractor immediately to examine and eradicate any problems.
Deep clean
Constant activity around the house from walking in and out accumulates dust and debris in secluded corners. Give your home a thorough deep cleaning once in a while to keep it tidy.
Lubricate doors and window hinges
Make sure your hinges work smoothly to prevent squeaking and further damage. The same goes for garage doors.
Yearly
Inspect your wiring system
When the electricity bill increases, plugs don’t work, and the lights don’t turn on, it’s time to check your wiring circuit. Get any damaged components repaired immediately.
Check for major water leak sources
Examine large home appliances like refrigerators, washing machines, and basins once a year for any possible leaks. This includes taps, faucets, toilets, and showers.
Notice signs of termite infestation
As termites are an invisible enemy, check for hollow and brittle wood structures as signs of infestation. Doing so could avoid irreversible detriment to your furniture and built-in cabinetry.
Check the dryer
Lint clogging eventually makes it harder for your dryer fan to spin. An even severely clogged dryer can even explode and cause a fire.
